GUIDE TO THE LABOR DAY FESTIVAL

by JAS’ JIM HOROWITZ

Jazz Aspen Snowmass is coming off a successful June festival, which saw its return to the Benedict Music Tent, the location of the first Jazz Aspen festival in June 1991. Our 19th season has been one of great transition, challenge and opportunity, and we are anxiously awating a tremendous season-closing Labor Day festival. It’s hard not to get excited about what many are calling the best overall lineup in our history: Elvis Costello and the JAS debut of the Black Eyed Peas featuring Fergie, one of their few stateside appearances prior to touring with U2 this fall;  the first-ever appearance of the Doobie Brothers, along with the return of The Allman Brothers Band (celebrating their 40th anniversary) and the driving Southern rock of the Drive By Truckers; and Michael Franti & Spearhead, who electrified audiences in 2007. Here’s to a great 2009 season, as we look forward to our 20th anniversary next year.”
