A fresh new look at the photography of Marilyn Minter

Marilyn Minter’s provocative, evocative art doesn’t need legs to jump out at you. She is known for her enamel-on-metal paintings and photographs that are so vibrant and realistic that the often in-your-face sexual and visceral subject matter is stunningly beautiful. Minter’s celebrated eight-minute high-definition video, Green Pink Caviar (2009), is a lush and sensual voyeuristic hallucination, parts of which were as a backdrop for Madonna’s opening song in her Sticky and Sweet Tour.  Minter forces the viewer to think about our ambivalence toward beauty, and she has been quoted saying that her work captures “how it feels to look.” Minter is no stranger to Aspen; Baldwin Gallery has represented her for many years.
